This structural demolition project posed significant challenges that required careful planning, technical expertise, and expert coordination.
Highlights of our work included:
· Precision removal of a 14-inch-thick concrete slab to create a new multi-story atrium—executed with a walk-behind saw and Brokk machine for controlled demolition while working in close proximity to neighbors
· Dismantling six elevator shafts, using an air chain hoist system to safely lower the elevator cab 150 ft down, each, spanning 12 to 15 stories, required exceptional attention to structural sequencing, safety protocols, and debris management in a dense urban environment
· Used reinforced poly to prevent outside contaminants from damaging the interior work
· Demoed mezzanines in the penthouse of the building to create additional floors and living space
· Removed windows on all four sides of the building using swing stages
· Cut a 65-foot-wide opening from the north façade to create a new storefront
