Project Description
To begin, the ACM team developed a highly controlled approach to protect the home’s historic character throughout the remediation process. Before removing impacted materials, crews established protective measures around original trim, fireplace hearths and mantels, cabinetry, doors, plaster, and other irreplaceable architectural details. With these protections in place, the team removed asbestos-containing materials. After the asbestos containing materials were removed, ACM partnered with Merit Restorations, a Virginia-based, full-service property restoration company with a growing regional presence and expertise in complex, high-value property losses, to address extensive smoke and soot contamination.
Throughout the demolition and abatement process, crews carefully worked around existing historic features. As a result, the team maintained critical tie-in points for remaining drywall and plaster while preserving original craftsmanship wherever possible. Additionally, this controlled approach allowed crews to complete necessary removal work without unnecessarily disturbing surrounding materials.
As work progressed, the team continually evaluated each area of the property. Based on site conditions, crews determined which materials required removal and which could be safely preserved through controlled cleaning and remediation. Ultimately, this ongoing assessment minimized the removal of original materials while allowing the team to complete the required abatement, remediation, and selective demolition work.
